Learn more about our drive systems on the way to sustainable travel.
All-electric travel, especially when using green electricity, means no CO2 emissions while driving, almost no noise and a direct response. Experience a completely new driving experience and a particularly forward-looking form of mobility with the all-electric vehicles from Mercedes-Benz.
Our plug-in hybrid drive systems combine the dynamics and efficiency of an electric motor with the range of an internal combustion engine. They can be charged at home and at public charging stations, and some models already offer purely electric ranges of up to 100 km (WLTP[1]).
[1] Power consumption and range have been determined on the basis of Regulation (EU) 2017/1151.
In the case of a mild hybrid, conventional combustion engines are equipped with an integrated starter generator (ISG) or belt starter generator (BSG). The ISG and BSG include a 48-volt electrical system that ensures functions such as gliding, boost or recuperation, enabling significant fuel savings.
In addition, all passenger car and battery assembly locations operated by Mercedes-Benz AG will be switched to climate-neutral production by 2022. Battery electric vehicles in all markets in which the brand is represented.
All new vehicle architectures will be exclusively electric and there will be a choice of fully electric alternatives for each model.
“Electric only”: By the end of the decade, Mercedes-Benz will be ready to go fully electric – wherever market conditions permit.
Our ambition: We want to become carbon neutral by 2039. Our objective encompasses all the stages of the automotive supply chain – from development to the extraction of raw materials, from production to the operating phase and recycling.

variety of charging options are available for your electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle. At home with the Mercedes-Benz Wallbox, on the go at a public charging station or a fast charging station on the motorway. Your vehicle and numerous Digital Extras support you in your everyday electric travel, such as Navigation with Electric Intelligence, for optimal route planning with necessary charging stops. So that you reach your destination without a care in the world.
The MB.CHARGE Public[1] service makes charging on the go even easier, as you can charge conveniently with just one charging contract using a network of over 400,000 charging stations across Europe.
[1] To be able to use the Digital Extras “MB.CHARGE Public”, a separate charging contract is required with a selected third-party provider, via which payment and invoicing of the charging processes takes place. The use of Digital Extras requires a personal Mercedes me ID and agreement to the terms of use for Digital Extras.
If you charge at one of the over 400,000 charging stations in Europe via MB.CHARGE Public, with Green Charging[1], Mercedes-Benz ensures an equivalent amount of green energy is fed back into the grid. This unique service applies to all major markets where you can charge your electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle via MB.CHARGE Public.
[1] Green Charging uses proof of origin to ensure that, for the charging operation, an equivalent amount of electricity from renewable sources is fed back into the electrical grid.
